Loaner pools: keep instruction going without losing the original device.

When a student Chromebook is in repair, someone still needs a working machine. EDUnifi tracks the loaner as its own asset: who has it, which original device it replaced, and when it is due back. This page explains that job for search. Staff do the work in the product workspace, not here.

The job

  • Issue a spare without inventing a new serial in a side spreadsheet
  • Keep the broken device’s ticket and repair history intact
  • Know how many loaners are out, and to whom
  • Collect the loaner when the original comes back

What EDUnifi records

  • Assignment on the loaner asset (name and email for custody)
  • Tickets and repairs on the original asset
  • Search by serial, tag, building, and user
  • Not an SIS—no grades or attendance

Questions

Does this page check out a loaner?

No. This is a marketing explanation. Checkout happens in the invite-only app at app.edunifi.com.

How do loaners relate to the broken student device?

The original asset keeps repair and ticket history. The loaner is a separate asset assigned while that device is in repair, so neither record goes missing.
